Dulsberg

Emil-Krause-Gymnasium (former Volksschule Krausestraße)
Architect: Fritz Schumacher, 1919-23

Dulsberg was planned by Hamburg's famous city planner Fritz Schumacher. Schumacher himself designed the school for the new borough (just like he designed almost all school buildings in Hamburg during this term in office). Located at the corner of Straßburger Straße and Krausestraße, the building accentuates the western entrance into the borough. Its form, developed out of a quarter circle, creates a welcoming gesture. See map.

It is hard to get a good shot of the building due to the large trees that today line the perimeter of the site. Additionally, my tilt-shift lens does not provide a viewing angle wide enough to capture the full building from inside the school grounds. Thus, this photo is stitched from three individual shots which were shot hand-held with the lens shifted upwards.
